I got my first tattoos by Simone Roma at Jay Lester. I LOVE it, I also even got a second one on the spot because I liked his work so much. Simone came up with a custom design for me using inspiration I gave him but he made the tattoo personal. He was really good at working with me and giving his professional opinion while also making sure I knew the final decisions would be completely up to me. He was patient with me if I changed my mind and he helped me make better decisions about my tattoo. Simone did a great job and I’ve gotten so many compliments already. Thank you! After Valerio Napoli, the latest arrival at Fronte del Porto, today we interviewed one of the many tattoo artists of the studio who started with an apprenticeship and has been one of our resident for some time: Michel Palma.

How did you approach the world of tattooing, what fascinated you?

I’ve always been attracted to tattoo iconography, subject and what it meant in some cultures. The first real approach to the world of tattooing was thanks to an old family friend who, by pure chance, showed me one of his very old faded tattoo, love was born there.

I remember it like it was yesterday, I got my first tattoo done on me, a demon face on my thigh.

What is your favorite style or styles and how has your way of tattooing evolved over the years?

I am very attracted to blackwork because I love making works using only black. Inside this style I prefer dotwork and hetching, over time I am trying to merge the two approaches to find my own recognizable stylistic signature, the work is very long and requires in-depth study.

I believe that great strides have been made in recent years and that it has finally been recognized as an art form. For someone like me, who is passionate about this world, this can only please me

At what point in your career did you join the Fronte del Front family and what does it mean for you to work in this studio?

Fronte del Porto welcomed me as an apprentice, and after the period of “apprenticeship” I became a tattoo artist of this studio. There are millions of words with which I could define Fronte del Porto but I like one most: home.

Definitely continue to improve and learn, and then I hope to be able to do guests and conventions around Italy to make myself known.

This place was great! Didn't even have to make an appointment and both artists were extremely friendly. The tattoo came out great, and when I requested a very slight touch-up the day after, they were able to fit me in quickly and told me that I didn't have to pay for it (I ended up paying them because they were so generous and helpful). I walked in late to try get a tattoo I had wanted for a while, the classic mom tattoo. Stefano sprang into action and absolutely knocked it out of the park. He speaks great English, and I loved the music choice. The shop overall is cute and clean, the three artists each specialize somewhat and between them can do pretty much whatever you want, for a very fair price. Il mio primo tatuaggio è stato fatto da Stefano, nel lontano '92, non aveva ancora un suo studio personale. Da allora, periodicamente, torno sempre qui, a Lucky Signs, sia x qualcosa di nuovo che x cover up eccellenti. Tra l'altro, è presente proprio la foto di un mio cover up fatto circa 10 anni fa, tuttora perfetto. Consigli sempre mirati, pazienza nel capire le esigenze, professionalità, competenza e, last but not least, igiene perfetta. Vivamente consigliato.
